The Geo-Mineralogical Museum of Odessa I.I.Mechnikov National University is one of the oldest museums in Odessa. Its funds count more than 10 thousand samples of minerals and rocks, reflecting the material composition of the Earth's crust, the bottom of the ocean, and the solar space. The content and themes of the Museum exhibits are adapted to the program of courses on Mineralogy, Petrology, Crystallography, Lithology, General Geology. The Museum organizes educational tours for students in secondary and higher institutions of our city and region.
The Zoological Museum is an educational and scientific base of the faculties of Biology, Geology and Geography. The exposition and museum funds are used by students for writing works. Along with teaching for students tours are conducted for schoolchildren, tourists, participants of the different olympiads here. The number of visitors reached 10,000 a year.
The Museum of Rare Books of Scientific Library consists of the rare and valuable editions taken from the General Fund of storage. Fund of the Museum has about 100 thousand books together with nominal collections of Scientific Library. The pride of Scientific library is a collection of periodicals including many rarities. The collection of editions of XVI century has about 500 books in Latin, French, German, Italian, Czech, Polish, Greek, and English.
The Paleontological Museum belongs to the ten best paleontological museums in the world. The Museum contains a rich collection of regional fossils. They were collected in the South Eastern European platform (Ukraine and Moldova), and the Museum has a unique collection of fossil fauna and flora. The Paleontological Museum is located in three halls with a total area of 500 sq. meters. Collections of the Museum comprise more than 60 thousand exhibits. The library of the Museum counts more than 10 thousand names; most of them are works of founders of Paleontology and Geology.
